INRAE and the International Office for Water (OiEau) are officially launching their new study of climate impacts on French water resources. Named “Explore2” and funded by the Ministry of Ecological Transition and the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB), it follows on from a previous study, “Explore 2070”, initiated by the Ministry between 2010 and 2012. The project “ Explore2 ”aims to update previously produced data and the latest IPCC publications but also to support future water management strategies by 2024:

Water use has increased worldwide by around 1% per year since the 1980s, under the combined effect of population growth, socio-economic development and changing consumption patterns. On the supply side, not only is the gap between water availability and demand increasing, but if we consider all urban water distribution systems, water losses can reach a staggering 346 million cubic meters per day. The total cost of these losses for public services and therefore for taxpayers and users of the system can reach 39 billion USD:
