As every year, the UIE commissioned an economic survey UIE and trade unions. Review of the year 2021, this took place from May 18 to August 19, 2022 with the 193 members of the UIE. The objective of this project led by an economic and statistical studies company was to have an annual overview of the “water” activity globally but also by business:

Technology

Researchers at McGill University (Canada) have developed a new AI to make the invisible visible through advances in lasers, optics and mobile technology. The new technology uses remote sensing, meaning it acquires information remotely, and could one day be deployed on satellites to detect pollutants as small as a nanometer in real time in aquatic systems around the world:

Regulation

The French Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE) has just adopted the opinion “Water and sanitation management in the Overseas Territories”. Among the key recommendations are the launch of a priority action plan for water in Guadeloupe, Martinique and Mayotte within 3 years to eliminate service interruptions; and the introduction of a social water tarification:

Financing

In Morocco, the National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water (Onee) is launching a new investment program. The public body wants to mobilize 70 billion Moroccan dirhams (about 6.5 billion euros) by 2035 for the supply of drinking water and the reuse of treated wastewater in the Cherifian kingdom:
