Market

The number of hydrological hazards, such as floods and droughts, is increasing as a result of climate change. Water stress, aggravated by population growth and dwindling resources, is expected to increase massively. However, according to a new multi-agency report, the management, monitoring, forecasting and early warning in the water sector are patchy and inadequate, while the funding allocated at the global level to climate action still remains insufficient:

Technology

Tracking down underground water leaks has become easier thanks to a breakthrough in the use of cloud computing. FIDO Cloud Correlation is a new technique that uses FIDO AI in the cloud to simplify and reduce the cost of acoustically locating leaks on any network with accuracy down to the order of a meter:

Regulation

European water bodies are suffering from agricultural pollution as well as pollution from insufficiently treated wastewater from cities, industry and scattered dwellings, according to a report by the European Environment Agency (EEA), released today. Man-made barriers, as well as navigation, collection, aquaculture and invasive alien species are causing additional pressures. However, solutions to resolve the issues exist and should be more widely adopted:

California Association of Water Agencies (ACWA) executive director Dave Eggerton released a statement in response to legislation signed by Governor Gavin Newsom that releases more than $ 15 billion over the course of the budget year 2021-2022, for climate resilience, including actions in response to drought and long-term water resilience:
